Fire stations in Tg Manis, Daro, Selangau soon

SIBU: A fire station will be built each in Tanjung Manis, Daro and Selangau to cope with the growing need in the central zone.

Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Abdul Mutalib Rashid said the central zone would have 11 fire stations when the three new ones are commissioned.

Speaking to reporters after officiating at Bomba Ramah-Tamah Aidilfitri here yesterday, he said the next fire station to be built would be in Sibu Jaya.

According to him, the one in Tanjung Manis to be completed by this October will be a Class C station, manned by several permanent firemen and backed up by auxiliary fire fighters.

On Daro fire station, Abdul Mutalib said levelling and piling works had already started and the project is expected to be completed in two years.

As for Selangau fire station, he disclosed that the project was already open for tender.

Meanwhile, asked on the status of the new fire station in Bintangor, he said the land had been levelled and they are waiting for budget.

Abdul Mutalib, who was posted to Sibu about 11 years ago, is due for retirement this Oct 9.

At the function yesterday, Abdul Mutalib presented a token of appreciation to Assistant Bomba Superintendent Chong Bui Chyan who will be transferred to the Fire Investigation Section (Forensics) at Kuching Bomba headquarters.

The other officer, Diana Joseph Abdullah, will be posted to the Bomba Academy in Bau.
