MIRI: The Saberkas night market here will be given a facelift and upgrading works to provide a conducive and comfortable trading and shopping environment to hawkers, traders and the public.

The decision was reached during a Hari Raya gathering organised by Saberkas Night Market Hawkers and Traders Association on Saturday night.

During the gathering, night market hawkers and traders, through association chairman Abdul Rahman Zawawi, highlighted to both Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture  Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Mayor Adam Yii the problems they faced including the need to improve and upgrade the facilities and structures in the market.

Miri City Council agreed to the facelift and upgrading works to be done on the market before year end or early next year.

Lee called on the traders and hawkers, including the public, to ensure that the market and the facilities remain in good condition upon its upgrading and improvement.

“It is important to make sure that the market is always clean and tidy as it is a tourist attraction. It is also a place for Bruneians looking for local and traditional cuisines and beverages.”

Lee reminded traders and hawkers to always ensure quality and cleanliness of their products.

“It is very important to ensure the food and drinks,

including packaging, are clean and hygienic as required and stipulated in trading licence or permit.”
