KUCHING: The Hari Raya Aidilfitri event hosted by the Petra Jaya Welfare Association at SK Datu Merpati Hall here yesterday served to foster closer ties between the trainers and staff of the Sri Satok Community-based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) and members of the public, including parents of the trainees.

According to a spokesperson of the association, the ‘Raikan Raya PDK Sri Satok’ was also meant to expose the PDK trainers to various programmes slated for raising public awareness of the requirements of, and challenges faced by, individuals with special needs.

The Aidilfitri event hosted the Chief Minister’s wife Datin Amar Datuk Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang  as its guest-of-honour.

In her remarks, Juma’ani said PDK Sri Satok ‘is always close to my heart’.

“I am keen to see all those involved in the PDK to excel in whatever training and programmes conducted at the centre,” she said.

The PDK houses trainees with special needs such as those with autism, dyslexia, Down syndrome, physical disabilities and speech impairment.

Later, Juma’ani handed over an incentive in the form of sports equipment to Nur Farhani Kudus – an athlete who has been selected to join the ‘Sarawak Youngsters Camp’ this year.
