KOTA KINABALU: The state police showed their commitment to eradicate corruption and abuse of power in the contingent by taking the Corruption Free Pledge (Ikrar Bebas Rasuah) yesterday.

Sabah Deputy Commissioner of Police Datuk Razarudin Husain said the pledge was also an assurance and proof to stakeholders in the state that the police contingent had taken the necessary steps to prevent corruption and abuse of power.

He told reporters this at the state-level ‘Corruption Free Pledge’ taken by 206 police officers as well as rank and file personnel at the Sabah police headquarters in Kepayan here.

Those who took part in the ceremony were among the 3,435 police personnel in 20 district police stations and PGA bases in Sabah to do so yesterday.

The pledge taking ceremony was conducted simultaneously throughout the country.

Razarudin said that it was a historical event for the Sabah police contingent which also serves as an ‘Aku Janji’ to fight corruption and abuse of power.

“We do not deny that there are police personnel involved in corrupt practises. We have rules and an Integrity and Standard Compliance Department which monitors matters of discipline, corruption and abuse of power among personnel.

“Action will be taken against those found involved in corrupt practices and we will continue to work with MACC to ensure that this does not happen,” he said.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sabah director Datuk Sazali Salbi who witnessed the ceremony, congratulated the Sabah police contingent for its continued cooperation with MACC to eradicate corruption and abuse of power.

“The commitment and bravery shown by the police force is a good commitment and will enhance the existing working relationship between the two agencies,” he said.
