Wushu champs from Java dominate 7th Borneo International

A wushu exponent thrills competitors and spectators with his moves.

SIBU: Foreign wushu artistes stole the show at the 7th Borneo International Martial Arts Tournament which ended at Sibu Indoor stadium here on Sunday. Three Indonesian exponents from East Java walked off with three titles.

William Ajinata was declared as the champion of champions after he defeated eight other champions in the five disciplines of changquan, nangquan, taijiquan, chenshi taijiquan and traditional martial art.

In the changquan discipline, compatriot Natalie Chriselda won first place followed by Choong Chee Wei from Chin Woo NS and teammate Saraf Naro Siregar.

For nangquan, the top three spots went to William Ajinata, Kelly Shu Tuang Hong from Sibu Martial Arts (Quanshu) Association (SMAA) and Nicholas Karanka from East Java.

Nico Valentinus from East Java beat Singkawang’s Rudianto Fransiskus and compatriot Matthew Jordan Sudianto to second and third place in taijiquan.

In chenshi taijiquan, Lim Say Ji from Selangor was first while Law Beng Han from Johor placed second and Koh Nyaa Hong from Selangor third.

In traditional martial, the first three winners were Chai Chong You from Wu Yi Tang, Wai Pui Cheng from Macau Tech and Shu Toh Ming from Feng Yang respectively.

Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce and Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh gave away the prizes.

The two-day tournament, organised jointly by SMAA and Sarawak Chenshi Taijiquan Association, attracted more than 400 exponents from countries like USA, Japan, Singapore, Macau, Indonesia, Brunei joining participants from West Malaysia and Sarawak.
