The government is planning to introduce a comprehensive geospatial law which would include the complete data of underground utilities throughout the country, said Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said a map of the underground facilities was important as it affected the environment, development, security and economy of the country.

“It is part of the ministry’s plans to incorporate all geospatial data with information on underground facilities. With the law, we can include the conditions for usage and limitations of data usage,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat here yesterday.

Wan Junaidi was replying to a supplementary question from Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad (BN-Parit Sulong) on the ministry’s long-term plans to speed up the process of mapping underground utilities to facilitate the development of infrastructure. — Bernama
