KUCHING: Students from UCSI University Sarawak Campus’ Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) recently organised a fundraising food sale ‘Lend a Hand, Help a Man’ in collaboration with Hope Place and supported by UCSI’s Commerce Enterprise Club (ECC).

The campaign held from July 3-7 at the university’s foyer from 9am to 3pm was a success with the public and UCSI staff and students.

Hope Place was established in 2013 to help Kuching’s needy and underprivileged.

The organisation is supporting over 180 families especially disabled (OKU) children and adults, abandoned senior citizens and single mothers.

The campaign aims to equip UCSI students with the relevant soft skills and practical experience of event planning and management as well as give awareness of the underprivileged by fundraising for needy families identified by Hope Place.

The students prepared various kinds of food and drinks for breakfast and lunch as well as light snacks.

A booth was set up to collect donations in cash and kind such as condiments for cooking, dry foodstuff, adult diapers and sanitary items.

The charity campaign was sponsored by companies like Grand Margherita Hotel, Riverside Majestic Hotel, Catama Borneo, Alvin’s Burger, Lee Fah Mee, Gammy Hair Supplies, Crunching Handmade, and individual contributions.

Donations totalling RM2,500 were distributed to families identified by the organising committee.

“On behalf of the organising committee, we thank generous sponsors, UCSI students and UCSI University Sarawak Campus for their support, and our lecturer for advising and guiding us during the campaign,” said project leader Chung Boon Kiat.

He appreciated the hard work of his committee members.
