KUNAK: A group of students have been arrested for alleged bullying following the discovery of video footage that shows them committing the act on social media.

The clip, which runs for one minutes and 39 seconds, shows at least seven secondary schoolgirls repeatedly slapping, punching and kicking the victim, another girl, at school.

Other schoolgirls also appear on the video and are seen mocking the victim, who is eventually thrown to the ground after having her hair pulled by other girls.

The clip appeared on a Facebook page on Sunday, and has since generated thousands of comments, almost all condemning the behaviour of those carrying out the act and calling for police to investigate the case.

It is unclear, however, as to when the incident actually occurred.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir, when contacted, confirmed receiving a report on the incident and that police have already detained ten of the students believed to be involved.

“We have received a police report on the incident. The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting,” he said, adding that the victim and her alleged bullies are all aged 15.
