81 petanque teams from Brunei and Sarawak at Bintulu Open

BINTULU: The Brunei team emerged as champion in the 5th Bintulu Open Petanque Championship held at Kidurong Club Petanque court over the weekend.

Runner-up and third spot went to Bintangor MM and Saratok Petanque Club.

The top three teams received cash prizes of RM2,000, RM1,000 and RM600.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi. Among those present were Bintulu Petanque Association president Shamsudin Abd Razak and Sarawak Petanque Association (Pepsar) vice president Abg Shamsudin Abg Ahmad Naib.

Pepsar secretary Janudin Ab Rahman, on behalf of his president Othman Mat, gave away the prizes.

The two-day tournament was organised by Bintulu Petanque Association.

A total of 81 teams from Bintulu, Miri, Saratok, Kuching, Mukah, Bintangor, Sibu, Limbang and Brunei participated in the competition.

For the record, the Brunei team was champion in the first edition in 2013. Winners in the next three years were the host teams starting with Poyut Son (Bintulu) in 2014, MLNG (Bintulu) in 2015 and Bintulu Petanque Association in 2016.
