KUALA LUMPUR: The management of dam safety will be coordinated through the Malaysia Dam Safety Management Guidelines or MyDAMS, said Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
He said MyDAMS would enable the management of safety at all the 104 dams in the country in a systematic manner comparable to international management standards.
“Up to now, different operators had managed the dams in the country. Some were managed by the ministry, some by the state governments.
“We want standard guidelines to avert any untoward incidents,” he said to reporters after attending the 12th meeting of the National Water Resources Council here yesterday.
Wan Junaidi said the standard guidelines would come in useful if dams were damaged and posed a danger to residential areas. — Bernama
