KUCHING: The Election Commission (EC) has clarified that Oct 13, 2017 as mentioned in a video clip that has gone viral in the social media is not the actual date for the 14th General Election (GE14).

EC chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said the date mentioned was only used for training and simulation purposes for the election workers who will be on duty during GE14 at a briefing in Kota Bharu, Kelantan on July 31.

“The EC reminds the public  not to believe in the claim that the GE14 date has been fixed.

“The EC regrets the act by irresponsible individual who had recorded and spread the video to the public and created confusion among members of the public on the date of the GE14,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

Mohd Hashim said since early this year, the EC has been conducting a nationwide briefing for all election workers who will be on duty during GE14.

“This programme is part of our preparation to provide training and streamline the skills of each worker with their roles and responsibilities in facing the GE14.”
