LUBOK ANTU: Support for Datuk William Nyallau Badak to be re-nominated as Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Lubok Antu parliamentary candidate in the next general election is apparently mounting, judging by the expression of people who gathered recently at Rumah Imau Sudin in Tanjong, Batang Ai Hilir.

This was evident when the crowd cheered when Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnichal Rayong Ngipa stressed in his speech that there should not be any other person nominated as the BN candidate in Lubok Antu.

Rayong said: “I represent 27 heads of longhouses in Batang Ai Hilir and Lower Skrang who are also present here now. We wholeheartedly support YB Datuk Nyallau as our next candidate during the 14th general election.”

“If any outsider   is  to be   brought here, we are sorry for him or her. Maybe our local people are not that willing to support whoever that outsider is, wholeheartedly,” he stressed, without giving any name, although it was understood he was referring to political secretary to the chief minister and PRS Women chief Datuk Doris Sophia Brodie, who has been bandied about by her supporters to replace Nyallau.

Tuai Rumah Imau also said positive things about the two elected representatives.

Imau said: “YB Datuk Nyallau and YB Rayong have been working closely together in the spirit of BN in bringing development over here.

“There is no reason to abandon him (Nyallau) now. He and YB Rayong have been supporting us in our development needs for the last 10 years.”

“Under them and the BN government, we have access roads to Sri Aman, Engkilili and Betong to market our agricultural products, which also saves us travelling time when we go shopping for daily necessities.

“Before the construction of access roads, we had to travel by boat through the crocodile-infested rivers to market our agricultural products.

“Now we have roads and water and electricity supply. We should be thankful to the BN government. There’s no reason we should not support YB Datuk Nyallau and YB Rayong,” he added.

Nyallau and Rayong were present to officiate Rumah Imau’s new roofing and also the closing of the Gawai Dayak.
