KUCHING: An 18-year-old was yesterday sentenced to the Henry Gurney School until the age of 21 after he pleaded guilty to statutory rape.
Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad convicted him under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 30 years and caning.
The accused admitted bringing the underage girl to a house at Jalan Sultan Tengah on July 6 this year to have sex around 3am.
In mitigation, the accused, who was unrepresented, asked for leniency as he has to take care of his mother. He also said that the girl was his girlfriend.
