PAPAR: A man was reported missing and feared drowned while fishing with a traditional fishing trap known as ‘bagang’ in the sea near Kampung Andus, here since last month.

District police chief DSP Ladamah Sulaiman said the man, identified as Basri Amir, 50, from Kg Kuala Mandahan had been reported missing almost a week after going out to fish with a friend around 2pm on July 30.

“When the man did not return home as expected on Aug 2, the wife contacted the friend but was told that the latter had gone home earlier.

“The wife then lodged a missing person report and a search and rescue operation was launched for the man with assistance from other agencies,” he said yesterday.

Ladamah urged anyone with information to contact the Papar police hotline at 088-916064 or 088-912222.

There was still no sign of the man at press time.
