Road tanker driver dies in accident

KENINGAU: A road tanker driver died from serious injuries when his vehicle skidded and crashed into a tree at Mile 28 Sook-Nabawan road near here yesterday.

Keningau police chief DSP Ahmad Jawila said Wong Khin Fah, 59, died after he was admitted to the emergency unit of Keningau Hospital.

According to Ahmad Jawila, the accident took place around 9.30 am at Mile 28 Sook-Nabawan road.

“From investigation carried out at the scene, it is believed the driver of the road tanker had lost control of the vehicle and skidded to the road shoulder on the right and crashed into a tree.

The road tanker was reportedly proceeding to Nabawan from Keningau to collect palm oil. As a result of the crash, the driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

Ahmad said the hospital later informed the police that the driver had succumbed to severe head and internal injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
