Banjarbaru police alert on forest and land fire

BANJARBARU, South Kalimantan: The Banjarbaru Resort Police, South Kalimantan, is now on alert of forest and land fires that have the potential to happen at any time in the entire region as the dry season begins, Antaranews Kalsel reported.

Head of Banjarbaru Resort Police AKBP Kelana Jaya in Banjarbaru on Monday said his side has checked the readiness of personnel and facilities for prevention of fire.

“We have conducted a muster followed by hundreds of personnel of all functions as a form of preparedness for prevention of fire,” he said after leading the ceremony, Monday morning.

He said that the readiness of personnel and facilities for handling of forest and land fire or karhutla is important so they can be deployed and anytime in case of fire.

“Hundreds of personnel are stationed in both the resort and sector police, while the equipment is also prepared, including simple equipment such as rattan and water sprayer,” he said.

Police also directs it personnel, especially Bhayangkara of Building Security and Public Order, to conduct coaching and counseling from house to house.

All Bhabinkamtibmas or public order officers are instructed to socialize the dangers of karhutla and its prevention in addition to informing sanctions and fine.

“We instruct Bhabinkamtibmas to direct guidance to the community related to karhutla as well as remind people about the legal sanctions and fines of up to Rp15 billion,” he said.

He insisted that the police continue to strive to provide awareness to the community related to forest and land fire. It prefers approachment than repressive or action attitude.

“We do not want to clash with the community, instead inviting all to jointly prevention of the potential of forest and land fires in their respective areas,” he said.

The countermeasures operation is conducted for 61 days starting from August 1, 2017 so that all personnel are on standby during operation.
