Several roads to be closed during Kuching City Parade this Saturday

KUCHING: The Kuching City Street Parade, scheduled to roll out at 8pm this Saturday (Aug 12), will feature 46 contingents.

The participants will depart from Travillion Commercial Centre, passing Jalan Padungan, Kuching Waterfront and Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman Yaakub, before reaching the end destination at Padang Merdeka.

In this regard, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) with cooperation from Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will close some of the streets and divert traffic along the routes on the day of the parade.

The block-off is scheduled to run from 4pm to 11.30pm; however, the actual time could differ according to needs in the areas and at the discretion of the traffic police on duty.

The streets to be affected include Jalan Market to Jalan Power, Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang towards Jalan Power, Jalan Main Bazaar/Jalan Lebuh Wayang towards UOB Bank, Jalan Lebuh Java/Jalan Gambier, Jalan Abell towards Sri Aman Roundabout, Sri Aman Roundabout towards Jalan Padungan, Jalan Song Thian Cheok traffic lights to Jalan Padungan, St Mary traffic lights towards Lebuh Wayang, Jalan McDougall to Lebuh Wayang, Jalan Lebuh Wayang traffic lights towards

St Mary traffic lights, and Jalan Abell/Jalan Padungan traffic lights.

Members of the public who wish to watch the parade can park at Reservoir Park, Green Hill, Bangunan Saujana, Medan Kereta Top Spot, Kuching Civic Centre, Kuching Polyclinic, Jalan Masjid, and MBKS Jubilee Ground car park.

Rehearsals are running beginning today till Aug 11, which would involve closures and diversions at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Main Bazaar starting 6pm.

Members of the public are asked to follow traffic directions and signs as directed by the police personnel on duty. They are also advised against parking on the roadside during this time as this can cause traffic congestion.

The police personnel on duty will take action should any road users disobey directions.
