The uneven road to Kampung Mutap

MIRI: Parti Islam Semalaysia (PAS) wants the authorities to supply clean water and tar-seal the roads to Kampung Bulau, Kampung Mutap and Kampung Sino in Bekenu.

PAS commissioner Jofri Jaraiee said the villagers are in dire need of basic necessities and the fastest way to reach the villages currently is by using outboard motor boat along the river.

“It takes about 45 minutes from Bekenu town to reach the village because of the gravel and uneven road from the oil palm estate entrance and furthermore, we have surveyed the villages and found that they need basic necessities such as clean water supply.

“The villagers are complaining as there is no clean water supply and the access road is still not fully paved though they have applied for it some time ago,” he said.

He added that the villagers were disappointed that what had been promised had not been fulfilled until this day.

He said among the villages that have no clean water supply are Kampung Mutap and Kampung Sinop, where they have to draw water from nearby rivers by water pumps and use rainwater for their daily chores.

“The murky and unclean river water is not good for health and the problem gets worse during the dry season,” he added.

Jofri thus hoped the relevant authorities would listen to the plight of the villagers.
