TAWAU: A group of secondary school students riding motorcycles without helmets or licenses were issued traffic summons during ‘Ops Khas Sekolah’ yesterday.

The operation was carried out by the Traffic Investigating and Enforcement Department of Tawau police led by ASP Joan Lee at two locations near a school between 12.40pm and 2pm.

District police chief ACP Fadil Marsus said the police had issued summons to 18 students for various offences and inspected 50 motorcycles.

Six motorcycles were seized and brought back to Tawau police station for further action.

Fadil said the operation was conducted after several complaints were received from the local community regarding students who were riding motorcycles without helmets.

Their parents will also be issued summons if they allow their children to ride a motorcycle without a license or helmet, he added.
