ALOR SETAR: The High Court here yesterday dismissed an application for a revision on a five-day remand order issued by the George Town Magistrate’s Court against Penang state executive council member (exco) Phee Boon Poh.

Judge Datuk Hashim Hamzah made the decision after hearing submissions by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), represented by deputy public prosecutor A. Hafiizh Abu Bakar, and Phee’s lawyers, Ramkarpal Singh and R S N Raye.

Hashim dismissed the application on grounds that it should be filed at the Penang High Court.

Phee, who is also the Penang Welfare, caring Society and Environment Committee chairman, was detained by MACC last Friday for investigation into a factory which was alleged to have been operating illegally in Sungai Lembu, Bukit Mertajam, since 10 years ago.

On Saturday, the George Town Magistrate’s Court issued an order for Phee, as well as another man and his son, who are the director and manager of the factory, to be held in remand for five days to facilitate investigation of the case.

Meanwhile, Ramkarpal Singh, when met by reporters, said he would file the application for a revision of the remand order at the Penang High Court today. — Bernama
