No more floods, schools to open as usual Monday

KUCHING: There were no more schools forced to be closed due to floods yesterday.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a statement issued at 5pm yesterday said the floods, which affected few schools, have receded.

With this, all schools are expected to open and operate as usual tomorrow (Aug 21). It also said the water level at Long Panai, Sungai Baram and Marudi (also Sungai Baram) have gone down below the warning level.

On Thursday, four primary schools were closed due to floods including two which were closed since Monday. They were SK Kuala Kebulu, SK Bukit Balai, SK Long Lenei and SK Nanga Kain.

Three of the schools were reopened last Friday but SK Kuala Kebulu remained closed but reopened yesterday. A school in Kapit, SK Nanga Kain was also closed on Friday.

SK Nanga Kain, with a student population of 61 pupils, remained closed yesterday morning and only re-opened later in the day.
