SIBU: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Dudong and Bukit Assek divisions will support anyone whom Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) fields as Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Lanang parliamentary constituency in the 14th general election (GE14).

PRS Dudong chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said his party would cooperate with SUPP and other BN component parties to ensure that the ruling coalition could wrest Lanang from the Democratic Action Party (DAP).

“It will be a loss to SUPP and PRS as well as other members of the ruling coalition if BN loses the seat again in the general election.

“Hopefully with support from PRS Dudong and PRS Bukit Assek, SUPP and BN would win back Lanang with a handsome majority,” he said in his speech during ‘Malam Mesra SUPP & PRS P211 Lanang’ gathering at a hotel here on Sunday.

Earlier, Sempurai told fellow party members that SUPP had three potential candidates for Lanang — namely its Dudong branch deputy chairman Wong Ching Yong, its Bukit Assek Youth chief Joseph Chieng and Kelvin Kong.

Meanwhile PRS Bukit Assek chairman Duli Sanggau, who spoke later, concurred with Sempurai, saying that PRS members must throw their support to any one of the three candidates picked by BN top leadership to contest in Lanang.

Meanwhile, Kong said he was confident that SUPP would be chosen to contest in all seven of its traditional parliamentary constituencies, including Lanang.

“Now we are in the process of preparing for the elections. We expect it is going to be a tough contest.

“We acknowledge the fact that it is not easy to get back Lanang. Therefore we need advice, cooperation, support and motivation from other BN component parties,” said Kong.

Chieng, on the other hand, said the concerted effort by BN component parties would be needed for SUPP to win in Lanang.

“We’ve to go to the ground to meet the constituents,” he said, expressing confidence of victory in Lanang with support from the Bumiputera voters.

Adding on, Wong said whoever among the three is chosen as BN candidate, would need the support from the other two.

The gathering was also attended by BN Lanang parliamentary coordinator Chieng Buong Toon, Dudong PRS Women chief Bunsi Tiboh and Dudong PRS Youth chief Kevin Ensan Kieh.
