Use Internet to market products worldwide, Bario residents told

KUCHING: Residents in Bario are encouraged to use the Internet to promote their products to the global market.

Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Jailani Johari said with the establishment of a 1Malaysia Internet Centre (PI1M) in Bario, entrepreneurs can now use ICT facilities to market their products online.

“Apart from that, PI1M also provides free ICT and entrepreneurship training for residents here by qualified trainers,” he said when officiating at the PI1M and Bario Rural Post Service at Bario Multipurpose Hall in Bario yesterday.

He added that there are currently 124 PI1M in Sarawak including Bario while another five PI1M will be set up in the future.

During the ceremony, Jailani launched the Bario Rural Post Service which provides identification numbers under the Address for All (AFA) project to 19 villages and 375 residential premises in Bario sub-district.

He announced that Bario now has its own postcode (98060) which will facilitate postal delivery to residents here.

Also present were Deputy State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Dato Gerawat Gala who is also Mulu assemblyman, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Postal and E-Commerce Division senior director Mohamad Zaidi Abdul Karim and MCMC Sarawak director Roslan Mohamad.
