KAPIT: A total of 75 hardcore poor e-Kasih recipients from the Kapit parliamentary constituency have been given 1Azam aid to help them with income generation projects.

Under Phase 3 of the various 1Azam projects, they received machinery aid for businesses such as sewing, ice vendor, barber and salon, car wash, cutting grass, reflexology and food stalls. From the 75 recipients, 34 were from Song, while the others from here.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is also Kapit MP, handed over the machinery.

“I hope that all the machinery given to you shall not become decorations in your home but be fully used to carry out small-scale businesses to generate an income for the family. Don’t sell them for quick money,” he said.

Nanta also warned the recipients not to take advantage of the project.

“If you misuse and exploit this, this might cause other people to be deprived of the project in the future. This happened before and I don’t want the government programme to be abused. By giving such projects, the government hopes you are able to stand on your own rather than rely on the e-Kasih assistance, which is minimal,” Nanta explained.

He pointed out that each project was worth around RM5,000.

“The government gives you the opportunity to carry out your own business hence do not try to misuse the project to get quick money. Our ministry will be carrying out the monitoring work on the ground to ensure the recipients are carrying out their businesses successfully.

“If we find out that this programme is successful, perhaps the government through our ministry could consider to provide the next phase of the 1Azam projects,” he added.
