Awe fights back tears as a relative consoles his wife.

SIBU: The body of Jackson Nuing Awe, the seven-year-old who allegedly died due to injuries caused by his Primary 6 schoolmate, will be taken back to his longhouse in Nanga Merit today.

Awe Lanyo and his wife, who was too devastated to reveal her name, will accompany the body of their youngest child and only son from here to Rumah Jamit, Sungai Pila.

Jackson’s funeral and burial would likely be held on Tuesday.

It is understood that SK Nanga Ibun will handle the arrangements for transportation and the funeral.

Choking back tears at the Sibu Hospital mortuary yesterday, Awe revealed that the last time he and his wife saw Jackson at the school was when they dropped off a T-shirt the boy had requested for through his uncle, who works as the school’s gardener.

“He ran to hug us both while wiping back tears,” Awe recalled, adding Jackson had just kept silent when asked the reason for his tears.

Awe said Jackson and his 10-year-old sister would return to Rumah Jamit every fortnight, since transferring to the school last month – a journey of up to one hour by longboat.

“Our son never complained that he was being teased or bullied by the other boys in his school.

“This was the first time he had ever been injured. He was brutalised by the Primary 6 boy,” said Awe, whose only source of income is from farming.

The couple’s eldest daughter, who is 14, had stopped school and was being cared for by Awe’s in-laws here.

Meanwhile, Sarawak General Hospital forensic department head Dr Norliza Ibrahim conducted the post-mortem, but the police have yet to release the results.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
