KUCHING: Assistant Minister of Corporate Affairs Abdullah Saidol today defended the Chief Minister’s recent decision to include a Dayak on the Petroleum Sarawak Berhad’s (Petros) board of members.

He said the Chief Minister did not decide to add another member to Petros’ board due to “pressure from social media” following his recent announcement of the board, with some netizens pointing out that it lacked Dayak representation.

“It was never due to pressure from social media that the Chief Minister introduced a new member to the Petros board.

“The introduction of the new member was planned before the board members were introduced but at that particular point of time, I think the Chief Minister was still waiting for a response from a few potential board members, particularly to represent the Dayak,” he told reporters after the launch of the Tegas Digital Innovation Hub at iCOM Square here today.

Abdullah said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas’ recent announcement regarding the new Dayak board member had been misconstrued by many.

“I’m not saying Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah’s statement was wrong. But due to his statement, some people misconstrued it as if the decision was made after all those happenings on social media,” he said.
