KANOWIT: About 500 people participated in the ‘My Nation: One Heart One Soul’ programme held in conjunction with National Day month at SK Ulu Ranan here on Saturday.

According to Kanowit Information Department head Donny Minggu Ling, his department jointly organised the programme with SK Ulu Ranan’s parent-teacher association, Kanowit police, and Kanowit District Office.

The activities held during the event included a joggerthon, convoy ride involving 15 cars and 10 motorcycles assisted by Kanowit police, poem recital, choral speaking, lucky draws and a ‘One Heart One Soul’ song performance.  Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong was the guest-of-honour at the event.

In his speech, Allan encouraged people in Kanowit to express their patriotism throughout National Day month.

“Patriotic spirit can be shown by flying the national and state flags at business premises, schools, cars and longhouses,” he said.

At the same function later, he contributed RM2,000 to SK Ulu Ranan’s choral speaking team, which won third place in the state-level competition recently.

Kanowit District Office state administrative officer Harmon Gilbert, Sibu/Mukah Information Officer Ivy Stephen Sekai, SK Ulu Ranan headmaster Andrew Mail and Pemanca Spencer Kudang were among those present at the event.
