KAPIT: Non-Muslims here joined Muslims at Masjid Jabar An-Nur for a Hari Raya Aidiladha sacrifice yesterday.

Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat led the group, which included Temenggong Tan Kian Hoo, Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Penghulu Sia Shui Poh, Penghulu Wong Kie Ing, Kapitan Kong Cheak He, and Kapitan Yap Hui Le.

“Indeed I’m happy to observe in Kapit, people irrespective of social backgrounds or religious background, fully demonstrate the spirit of 1Malaysia. Even though these Hari Raya Aidiladha activities involve the sacrifice of cattle, yet today, we have non-Muslims around,” Jamit told reporters.

“This is the way we share the joy together. Their presence during every festive occasion signifies our religious tolerance and respect for each other’s practices. Every festive occasion is an opportunity for us to hold goodwill visits to strengthen our existing ties and friendship because we realise the importance of togetherness in all aspects.”

Jamit also allocated RM10,000 to the Kapit Muslim Welfare Organisation for the celebration.

Penghulu Abang Hamzah Bolhassan thanked the non-Muslim guests for attending the event.

“We’re very happy YB Jamit and others joined us during this religious celebration. YB Jamit also chipped in RM10,000 for this event. We know he’s very busy with official engagements but he made time for us. His presence is very meaningful to us,” he said.

The Federal Land Development Authority donated five head of cattle for the ritual sacrifice at Masjid Jabar An-Nur.
