Niosh to hold BOSH 2017 on Nov 13-14 in Kota Kinabalu

SIBU: The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) through its regional office in Kota Kinabalu will hold the fifth biennial Borneo Conference and Exhibition on Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH 2017) this year.

Niosh chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said BOSH 2017 themed ‘Enhancing OSH for Business Competitiveness’, will be held at Hilton Kota Kinabalu on Nov 13 and 14 and is expected to attract 500 participants.

“BOSH 2017 will be the platform for Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practitioners to share ideas and knowledge on OSH management and is also open to workers and members of the public,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Lee added that an exhibition showcasing the latest OSH products and services will also be held at the venue.

“Niosh Sabah welcomes employers from the public and private sectors to organise OSH awareness programmes.”

Adding on, he said in conjunction with the recent celebration of National Day and Malaysia Day on Sept 16, Niosh is offering 20 per cent discount for eight of its competency courses from September to November.

The courses are Safety and Health Officer (SHO), Site Safety Supervisor (SSS), Occupational Health Doctor (OHD), Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA), Industrial Hygiene Technician 1 (IHT1), Industrial Hygiene Technician 2 (IHT2), Monitoring Noise Exposure, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ).

Lee said Niosh Sabah will also hold mini seminars on best practices adopted by several companies that could be emulated by other employers.

They will share their experience in Chemical Industrial Code of Practice and Chemical Registration, Occupational Health Issues in Confined Space, Incident Report and Technique for Everyone, Kiken Yochi as Hazard Prediction Method, OSH for Design, Inspection, and Testing and Examination of Local Exhaust Ventilation System.

Niosh also hopes that employers and workers in Sabah are aware of and use the services and facilities at its new office in Damai Road, Tawau.

“Niosh staffers at Tawau office are always prepared to assist its customers on issues related to Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and Factories and Machinery Act 1967,” Lee said.
