Sibu lad strikes gold for tenpin bowling team

KUCHING: Jeff Wong Kee Soon helped to make it a perfect 10 for Malaysia as the national team reaped its 10th gold medal in tenpin bowling at Sunway Megalanes in the ongoing 9th Asean Para Games in Kuala Lumpur.

After bagging the mixed doubles silver in TPB9 (Lower Limb/Amputee Disability – Standing), the 32-year old from Sibu was on a roll, hitting an average game of 221.75 for 887 pins over four games in the mixed team TPB 8+9+10 event.

His teammates Abu Bakar Nyat knocked down 942 pins, Muhamad Amin 765 pins and Zahidi Lamsah 669 pins for a total score of 3,263 pins. The silver and bronze medallists were Philippines (2,809) and Thailand (2,738).

With the win, Malaysia

achieved its target of winning 10 golds in the competition and the host captured its 11th gold when the team of Choo Kam Chan (696), Mohd Rizal Has (822) Muhamad Hairul (580) and Muhamad Suhaili (753) posted a total score of 2,851 pins to top the mixed team TPB1+2+3 event.

Brunei took the silver with 2,654 pins while Thailand won the bronze with 2,525 pins.

On Thursday, another Sarawakian Nur Syazwani Marais contributed a gold medal to the Malaysian team when she won in the women’s singles TPB4 (Learning/Intellectual Disability) after knocking down 1,015 pins over six games while Eliyana Johari made it an 1-2 finish for Malaysia with her score of 927 pins.

Singapore’s Diane Teo was third with 863 pins.
