ALOR SETAR: The Public Services Commission (PSC) took action against civil servants involved in 66 disciplinary cases nationwide last year, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun.

In 2015, the number of disciplinary cases which the PSC acted against stood at 68.

Entulu said the number of disciplinary action cases involved nine cases of absenteeism in 2016 as compared to 25 in 2015; 28 code of conduct violations in 2016 (23 in 2015); and 29 cases of criminal offence in 2016 (20 in 2015).

“Although there was only a slight drop in the number of disciplinary action cases, (nevertheless) it indicates department heads are now more firm in taking decisive action on  civil servants who commit offences,” he told reporters after officiating a career carnival organised by the PSC.

He said according to Article 144 of the Federal Constitution, the PSC was empowered to control and manage disciplinary action with the aim of processing dismissal or demotion action against the top management, management and professional groups.

Therefore, Entulu reminded all civil servants to adhere to the code of conduct and integrity to avoid disciplinary action. — Bernama
