Sarawakian musclemen aiming for gold

MIRI: Malaysia is targeting three gold medals in the 9th WBPF World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships, which is happening in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from October 3 to 9.

Malaysian Bodybuilding Federation (MBBF) vice president Jamilah Ibrahim said three Sarawakian musclemen are among the five Malaysians contesting for the Mr. World title.

She said the trio are Malvern Abdullah, who secured a gold meda in the flyweight category; Buda Anchah, who secured a silver medal in the lightweight category and bronze medal in the Masters category; and Awang Mohd Azizul, who secured a bronze in the Welterweight category of the recent Mr. Asia championship held in South Korea.

“We are putting our best hope on all the musclemen who have performed and conducted their intensive training to compete for the Mr. World title, ” she said after sending off the Malaysian team at Kuala Lumpur International airport on Tuesday night.

The team is led by its team manager Lt. Gen (B) Dato Wira Masood Zainal Abidin and other officers Mej. (B) Syed Fairus Syed Ali, Othman Yahya and Murugan Gananam.

Jamilah said the other Malaysian bodybuilders are Mohd Syarul Azman Mahen Abdullah who secured a gold medal in the Physique Athletic category and Ahmad Faiz Ariffin who took fifth placing in the Physique Athletic in the recent Mr. Asia in South Korea.

She said the team will arrived in Mongolia on October 5 from China and will be preparing for their final training there.
