PAKAN: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) will remain one in totality and any attempt to form any cliques or groups should be nipped in the bud.

Its secretary-general Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum said any cliques even at grassroots up to the top leaders’ level would weaken and disunite the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party to render it unsuccessful.

“We must learn from successful political parties like the Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) which has always remained crisis-free.

“Their members are well disciplined and will abide by any decision made by the president.

This is because they know that the president made the decision not for himself but in the overall interest of the party,” he said when officiating at the PRS Pakan Division annual general meeting here on Wednesday.

He said PBB members knew that before making any decision, the president would consult other party leaders, members and those concerned.

According to him, it was the same in PRS whereby party president Tan Sri Dr James Masing would listen to the advice and feedback given by leaders, members and people on the ground.

On the coming parliamentary election, Salang who is Pakan PRS chairman and Julau MP, said PRS would give Masing a free hand in deciding on PRS candidates or re-nominating incumbents.

“Let us not fuss over the matter especially in the social media.

“Only those who are not with the party will be fussing and create confusion to suit their own agenda,” he said.

On his own position, Salang said Masing had announced his re-nomination twice after consulting party leaders, members and voters.

“Although it has been decided by PRS that I should defend the seat again, this is not confirmed until nomination day itself.

“I have no problem with those who claim they are going to replace me.

“But one thing they should know is that they should not burn the bridge before crossing the river as they would need the bridge to cross over safely,” he added. — Bernama
