Drug trafficking case sent to High Court

KUCHING: A magistrates’ court here has transferred a drug trafficking case involving a 27-year-old man to the High Court for plea and trial-hearing.

Magistrate Portia Tham Ong Leng yesterday allowed the application made by the prosecution to transfer the case involving the accused, Chong Jun Fah who is charged with the trafficking of methamphetamine and ecstasy pills.  Under the first charge, Chong is alleged of trafficking 11.644kg of methamphetamine upon his arrest at a house in Stampin Resettlement Scheme on Sept 21 this year.

The second charge is for trafficking 282g of ecstasy pills, which were found at the same place on the same time and date.

The accused is facing charges under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides mandatory death sentence. Insp Yunus Sahak appeared for prosecution, while lawyer Roger China and Mejar Osman represented the accused.
