KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Jobstreet.com to enhance employability of graduates.

The university’s vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi noted that there had been calls from industries for graduates to have skills relevant to their employment.

“With the number of graduates increasing continuously, there is a need for the university to find out the reason for low graduate employability, and improve the employability rating,” he said at the signing of the MOA at Unimas here, yesterday.

To this end, he said, Unimas had been actively engaged with government-linked employers in Malaysia.

He said Unimas would explore more opportunities with JobStreet.com for the benefit of its students and the people of Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Kadim disclosed that Unimas would be running an ‘Online Career Fair’ to support the initiative by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in the state’s digital transformation.

“This online career fair is in sync with Sarawak’s Digital Transformation Plan of encouraging more graduates to embrace technological change in job applications,” he said.

JobStreet.com Regional Communications head Simon Si said the job portal was looking forward to working with Unimas in developing industry-ready graduates through joint programmes like Career Service Certification and Student Ambassador Certification.

“In these programmes, selected career services staff are exposed and trained in working for the recruitment and job matching process of JobStreet.com.

“Likewise, student ambassadors are trained in our JobStreet.com workshop on understanding job market dynamics and how to conduct resumé clinics and leadership skills.

“This training is designed to help student ambassadors assist and guide their fellow students to be more job market ready,” said Si.  — Bernama
