Passenger badly hurt in city centre car crash

KUCHING: A woman was badly injured while another escaped unhurt after the car they were travelling in crashed near a traffic light in the city centre early yesterday morning.

The incident occurred around 3am when the vehicle, which was said to be heading towards Abell Road, struck a road divider and landed on the pavement of a shopping centre.

The badly-injured woman, who was the passenger, was subsequently rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Separately, a 29-year-old foreigner suffered burns to his body after he was electrocuted during an incident at Mile 17 around 8am yesterday.

The victim, who is said to have suffered 45 per cent burns, was attempting to attach a makeshift flag pole using an aluminum rod to a building and was electrocuted.

He is currently receiving treatment at SGH.
