KAPIT: A minor landslide occurred at Kampung Cina Bletih following continuous heavy rain recently.

According to Kapitan Yap Hui Le, the heavy rain loosened the soil structure.

“Before the landslide, the villagers planted pineapples and other citrus fruits here as hillslope protection. I am concerned if landslides continue to occur, it may affect the roadside drain and eventually also damage the road,” she said during an inspection of the area by Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat.

Jamit called on the village security and development committee (JKKK) to submit a report to the Public Works Department, as well as Department of Irrigation and Drainage for recommendations on how best to prevent further landslides from occurring.

He also advised the JKKK to use plastic sheets to cover up the affected area as a temporary measure.

Kampung Bletih Cina is home to some 50 families who have temporary occupation permits from the government.

They were relocated from Kampung Cina, Lorong Satu, Jalan Airport following a deadly landslide in 1997, which killed a family of three.
