MIRI: Residents of Pujut 2B have requested the Miri City Council (MCC) to provide bigger communal garbage bins to be placed at the shop lots in the area.

Chairman of UPP Pujut branch Bruce Chai said that the request was received by the branch’s weekend mobile community service of Mobile Action Team (M.A.T) at the shop lot recently.

Together with the residents, he inspected the area where the communal bin was currently placed.

As a former councilor of MCC, he remembered a bin collection centre in the area which was later removed due to abuse.

“Probably, the council can provide bigger or more bins for the area as the existing bin is insufficient. The rubbish and waste from the shop lots and surrounding area has overflowed into the drain,” Chai said.

He also saw that part of the concrete drain has collapsed and there was oil in the drain making the situation worse. He suspected the oil came from the commercial lots.

On this concern, he said the council should check the grease traps in the eateries at the commercial lots.
