MIRI: In view of the rainy season, members of the public in Miri are advised to take extra caution and be alert to the possibility of flooding.

Operation chief of SUPP Miri Complaint Bureau Erick Chin Feng Siong who gave this advisory said that the meteorology department has issued an alert on bad weather with strong wind, detected through satellite image recently.

“The image shows several places affected by this stormy weather, including Borneo island and its surrounding areas,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

Chin urged members of the public here to be vigilant and alert especially during heavy downpour due to the possibility of flooding.

He also appealed to authorities-the Natural Disaster Relieve Committee, Miri City Council, Bomba Miri as well as other related government agencies to be on standby for any untoward events.

“The public should not rely on the authorities alone, they should be pro-active. For example they must clean their own housing areas, ensure all drains are cleared and not clogged or blocked, so that rain water would not collect and caused unnecessary flooding,” he added.
