According to SFC, none of the logs confiscated from Sungai Anak has any official marking.

KUCHING: The recent joint operation at Sebelak in Roban uncovered 250 logs, believed to have been illegally extracted from a nearby forest.

The raid last Saturday, involving Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) personnel from its Sibu regional office and police from Roban station, was set up following public tip-off about a suspected illegal logging operation at Sungai Anak, Sebelak.

According to SFC, the joint enforcement team found that none of the logs had any official marking – the indication that this timber operation was an illegal one in that all licensed companies must stamp the marking on their logs to signify approval and permission to extract trees from any designated logging area.

“The enforcement officers also recorded a statement by a member of the local community, believed to be involved with the illegal activity,” the corporation said.

Report on the raid was lodged at Roban police station.

The case was later handed over to Foresty Department for further investigation and disposal.
