Sarawak dominate Sportexcel bowling after a near clean sweep of titles

KUCHING: Sarawak stamped their domination in the Sportexcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit Sarawak Leg at the Megalanes Sarawak, Batu Kawa yesterday when they captured five out of the six categories competed in the two-day competition.

The only bowler from Sabah who prevented a clean sweep by the host team was Cara Loh Wai Theng who lifted the Girls U12 crown with her eight-game total score of 1,627 pins.

Lavinia Kho Jia Jie was second  with 1,547 pins while Sabah’s Nur Wardina Polinu was third 97 pins further back.

In the Boys U12, Sarawak made a clean sweep of the top three positions, with Marcos Chang Hao Hong finishing on top with 1,701 pins, followed by Mohammad Hanif Irfan Sulhie with 1,646 pins and Goh Min Jie with 1,494 pins.

Nur Aina Kamalia staved off a strong challenge from Sabah’s Farah Nur Iman Mantaib to take the Girls Open title.

Aina, the top seed, lost the first game 165-179 to Farah but came back strongly to win the second game 188-180 in the step-ladder finals.

Gillian Lim was third.

The Girls Graded was won by Nur Hazirah Ramli who recently won a silver at the 41st Storm-Sydney Youth Cup in Campbelltown, Australia.

Seed number one in the step-ladder finals, Hazirah rolled a good score of 200 pins to beat second seed Nur Haziqah Ramli who posted 151 pins.

Meanwhile, it also took only one game to decide the winners of the Boys Open and Boys Graded step-ladder finals.

Abang Afiq Yazid Abang Azman edged Mohd Nur Syafiq Mohd Amaran 160-158 for the Boys Open crown while up and coming Tsen Fan Yew outbowled Abdul Khadir Haziq Ramli 194-172 for the Boys Graded title.

Thirty junior bowlers from Sabah and 57 from Sarawak took part in yesterday’s competition with the hope of making it to the grand finals at Sunway Megalanes in Kuala Lumpur from Dec 18 to 19.
