LONG LAMA, Baram: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau has called on the people in his constituency to continue giving strong support to the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said that this is vital to ensure people in the rural areas will be able to enjoy better livelihood through constant services provided by the government.

Such services include giving out assistance to victims of natural disasters like floods and fires.

“The government consistently maintains fairness when it comes to providing assistance to the needy,” said Dennis during a presentation of relief funds to flood victims in Telang Usan District.

The event took place at Long Lama Community Hall here recently.

Dennis said that although the amount of aid received may not be sufficient to cover the amount lost to such natural disasters, the rural communities should always be thankful that the government has continued to provide for them.

“If we look at the damages or losses suffered as a result of floods, the amount you receive from the government is definitely not enough to cover your total loss.

“Nevertheless, we should always be thankful to the government for coming to our aid in time of difficulties.”

Over 600 families in Telang Usan district affected by recent flooding received RM500 each.

These families are from several longhouses in the interior of Baram and Telang Usan constituencies, including Long Lama, Long Puak, Sungai Dua, Long Bemang, Long Ikang, Long Laput, Long Moh, Klinik Long Bemang, SK Long Bemang, Long Bedian, Long Atip, Long Daloh and Long Buang.

The Doh Kayan Association of Telang Usan chairwoman Temenggong Elizabeth Deng, Telang Usan district officer Baru Tai, a political secretary to the chief minister Charles Balan Seling, and Miri Civil Defence Force (APM) head of management services Sharifah Jeliaha Wan Abdullah were also present.
