KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Welfare and Family Development is hoping that the national education syllabus on ‘sex education’ can be further improved.

Its minister Dato Sri Rohani Karim said that sex education should be incorporated into school subjects such as ‘Pendidikan Moral’ or ‘Pendidikan Islam’.

“All these while, our children are exposed to unverified information from the social media or worldwide web,” said Rohani in a press statement after chairing the second national council meeting for children at the Kuching Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) last Friday.

Rohani is optimistic that awareness and information through sex education could curb sexual crimes against children in the state and country.

The meeting also discussed the citizenship issue faced by children under the Social Welfare Department (JKM) institute with the involvement of the National Registration Department under the Home Ministry. Other issues discussed were children being left out of school, school drop-outs and incest.
