SEMPORNA: A 26-year-old male Chinese tourist was found drowned at Diving Resort Sipadan Water Village, Mabul Island, yesterday.
The victim, identified as Shen Dong, was found drowned below the diving centre inside the resort area by a security guard at about 11.50am.
District police chief Supt. Peter Anak Umbuas said cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed on the victim but the victim was not responding. The victim was brought to the Semporna Hospital for further treatment where the doctor on duty pronounced the victim had died before reaching the hospital.
Peter said the victim, together with six others, came to the resort at 10am yesterday. The diving resort opens at about 7am to 5pm.
He said life jackets were provided but during the incident the victim was not wearing one as he was only swimming and not diving.
He said during the incident the resort manager did not hear anyone calling for help and only realized that many people were running towards the diving area.
