KUCHING: The Rolling Thunder MC will be organising the Sarawak Borneo Cross Country Rally next year from July 27 to Aug 6.

Rolling Thunder MC president Eric Wong said yesterday that the 2,300km rally would take 11 days and 10 nights to complete.

“We are targeting about 300 riders including pillion riders for this event that will cover Brunei, Sarawak and Kalimantan Indonesia.

“The rally will start on July 27 from Brunei with stops at Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Kuching, Pontianak, Singkawang, Biawak and ends Aug 6 in Kuching,” he told reporters at Crown Towers.

Wong said the event is open to local and international riders with 250cc and above big bikes.

“We are expecting many participants from other countries in Asia as we are in regular contact with our counterparts there,” said Wong.

According to Wong, among the objectives of organising the rally were to promote the local culture and tourist attractions in Borneo especially in Sarawak and enhance ties and brotherhood between big bikers from different countries.

“This is a good opportunity for the bikers from other countries to come down here and see what Borneo has to offer,” he said.

Others are to provide a platform for the sharing of experience and knowledge among the bikers.

Wong said an organising committee would be set up to look into the details and run the event smoothly.

“We will be accepting entries starting Nov 15 and we will be inviting chief minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to launch the event officially either in December or January,” added Wong.

The See Hua Group of newspapers (See Hua Daily News, Borneo Post, Utusan Borneo) are the official paper for the event.
