KUCHING: Entries are invited to vie in a badminton doubles tournament for the YB Datuk Snowdan Lawan Challenge Trophy to be held at Sentosa Sports Centre, Kota Sentosa from Nov 24-26.

The team competition is open to all Sarawakians except those who have represented the state, said technical officer Anthony Ugor Nili.

Registration is now open with maximum 10 members per team for Men’s Doubles Open, Women’s Doubles Open and Men’s Veteran (45 years and above).

It is limited to 28 teams only and registration fee is RM300 per team. Registration forms are available at Sentosa Sports Centre and deadline to submit entries is Nov 20.

The tournament, organised by Agro Pemuda PRS with Seraban and Kelab Badminton Kenyalang, offers RM7,000 in total prize money with Lea Sports Centre and StarSport as main sponsors.

Asked about the recently announced Budget 2018, Snowdan hailed it as “holistic” and was happy with its focus on rural development.

On the RM1 billion allocated for sports infrastructure and programmes, the Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports said it is in tandem with Sarawak’s vision to be a sports powerhouse.

“Of course we are asking for more, nothing is enough in this world. We are asking for more budget for Sarawak as Sarawak is a big state, almost as big as West Malaysia,” he added.

Organising chairman Kamarau Entalai, Lea Sports Centre Sdn Bhd senior operations manager Poh Siok Hoon and senior merchandising manager Alice Kho were also present at the press conference.
