KUCHING: Popular Japanese TV personalities and idols, Taishi Tamaki and Fukuyama Chikako visited Kuching from  Oct 20 to 23, 2017 as part of a travel awareness campaign of the Dangan Challenge series organised by AirAsia X Japan.

The capital city saw the Japanese pop stars when they dropped by on the Kuching leg of their Dangan Challenge Campaign, an effort of the Japanese AirAsia to promote travel to interesting destinations overseas such as Sarawak’s hidden gem – Kuching.

The campaign aims to promote Cat City as a travel destination for the Japanese by highlighting its four main attractions: nature, fauna, food and culture.

The 4 day/3 night visit of the TV sensations with over 180,000 followers over social media alone, saw the couple explore the charms of Kuching city, tasted extraordinary fare, experienced the warmth and hospitality of the Kuchingite community, and enjoyed a sunset cruise at mangrove swamps.

They visited Sarawak Cultural Village, the must-go destination for travellers, followed by gastronomic delights after interacting with orangutans at Semengoh Wildlife Centre.

The trip was a fruitful one with the video of the visit to be aired on Japanese TV in early November.

The couple have already generated close to a million social media impressions and engagements, likes and comments with their visit to Kuching, seen as a highly successful campaign for AirAsia X Japan.

AirAsia X hopes that in the near future, there will be direct flights from Japan to Kuching as they can’t wait to show the Japanese market what a paradise Kuching is.
