Fend off negative perception of govt, party, zahid tells umno cyber troopers

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday urged Umno cyber troopers to proactively fend off negative perception of the government and ruling party involving character assassination of leaders by certain quarters.

The deputy prime minister said it was important to prevent the bad perception from influencing the people.

“Public opinion and the court of public opinion are more powerful than a court of law. If this (negative) perception and court of public opinion are not addressed, we will ‘drown’.

“The downfall of some of the world’s politicians and a number of top political parties is due to the absence of proper management of the (negative) perception,” he said when addressing the national-level Umno Social Media Convention at the Putra World Trade Centre here.

Ahmad Zahid, who is an Umno vice-president discharging the duties of the deputy president, said the people of today were more inclined to believe false news, in fact receive such news well.

He said that if the negative perception was not thwarted immediately and was only responded to three or four months later, it would become like the case of (former Bar Council president) Datuk S Ambiga allegedly having accused PAS of receiving RM90 million from the Prime Minister and 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad).

Ahmad Zahid also said that all differences of opinion in the party should be resolved to strengthen it in facing the next general election.

He said that with the Prime Minister having tabled the best budget in all aspects and when the whole party machinery was integrated well, the current leadership would be able to achieve a two-third majority victory in the 14th General Election.

On the Umno Social Media Convention, he said it should be used as a guide for all party members in facing the various issues on social media that affected the party.

The convention, organised by the Umno Information Technology Bureau, is aimed at providing an overview of the social media importance and ethics as well as a more effective work format for all Umno social media practitioners in facing the 14th General Election. — Bernama
