Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh
KUCHING: Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh condemned the act of some people who manipulated a situation and turned it into a scandalous rumour just to smear his reputation.
According to Soon Koh, he was recently invited to a dinner to welcome visitors from Alibaba Group and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation Sdn Bhd (MDEC) for a digital conference.
He said a woman lecturer from Kolej Laila Taib, who happened to be the emcee for the night, sat very close to him because she wanted to brief the minister on the programme for the night.
“I came early for the dinner and she sat right next to me, very close to me because she wants to brief me on the programme. Somebody from outside took the photograph of that moment very quickly and spread the rumour.
“The photo must have been circulated very widely because I am getting a lot of phone calls over the allegation,” he said.
Soon Koh said the act, which he considered as cyber-bullying, is very unfair to the young lady, who was accused as a woman of low morale by the rumour-monger, when in fact she is a very qualified academician who got her Ph.D recently.
