BARISAN Nasional Back Benchers Club (BNBBC) says the Private Bill moved by Baru Bian (PKR- Ba Kelalan) to amend the Sarawak Land Code 2017 Is not comprehensive and holistic.

Its chairman Paulus Palu Ngumbang said Baru only moved to amend Section 2 of the Land Code.

He said there are other sections of the Sarawak Land Code which are relevant to be amended.

“If we look at the amendment Bill (Private Bill) by Baru, he only mentioned Section 2 of the  Sarawak Land Code without taking into consideration other sections.

“As we are all aware, the state government has already set up a special task force to look into the matter in a more comprehensive and holistic manner (to amend the Land Code).

Paulus said there are at least six other sections of the land code that had to be amended.

“So for this reason, we, the BN, do not support the Bill,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Paulus said the issue of BN not supporting Baru’s Bill had gone viral, which prompted BNBBC to explain.

He said the special task force headed by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah should be given time to look into the matter and provide further recommendations to the government.
